Entry rules vary by nationality and can change. Use this page to understand the process, then verify your case with the official sources below before departure.
Many leisure travelers can visit without applying for a tourist visa in advance, but passport-validity rules, airline requirements, and visa eligibility depend on nationality and can change. Cyprus is an EU member but is not yet in the Schengen area, so its 90-day allowance is counted separately. Treat the official links below as the final check before you fly.

The Republic of Cyprus is a member of the European Union but is not part of the Schengen Area, so its short-stay allowance is counted separately from Schengen. Citizens of EU and EEA countries and Switzerland have free movement and can enter with a valid identity card. Visa-exempt non-EU nationals, including those from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, can visit for tourism for up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa, with the permitted period set by immigration on arrival. From late 2026, visa-exempt non-EU travelers are expected to need an ETIAS travel authorisation before they fly. Always confirm your own case with the official sources above.
No visa
For EU citizens and many tourist nationalities
90 days
Visa-free stay in any 180-day period
ETIAS
Expected from late 2026 for visa-exempt non-EU
Most visitors arrive by air at Larnaca International Airport (LCA) or Paphos International Airport (PFO). There is no online entry card to fill in. EU and EEA citizens pass through with a national ID card or passport, while visa-exempt non-EU visitors simply present a valid passport at border control. From late 2026, visa-exempt non-EU travelers are expected to need an approved ETIAS authorisation before boarding, so check the official sources above for the latest before you fly.
If you wish to stay beyond the period granted on arrival, you have two main considerations:
Non-EU visitors can apply to the Civil Registry and Migration Department in Nicosia before the permitted stay expires to request an extension. Proof of funds and travel insurance may be required. EU and EEA citizens staying longer than 90 days register their residence instead.
Overstaying or working without authorization is illegal and can lead to fines, a multi-year entry ban, or removal. Fees and rules change over time, so confirm the current amount with the Civil Registry and Migration Department before relying on an estimate.
Visa-free access depends on nationality, passport type, and sometimes residence status in third countries. Some travelers who would otherwise need a visa may be exempt if they hold a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa or a residence permit issued by a Schengen state. Do not rely on a generic country list alone when you are booking flights.
If you're unsure about your country, check the Cyprus Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa pages, the nearest Cyprus embassy, high commission, or consulate, or the official sources above for the most up-to-date requirements.
Keep digital copies of your passport, return ticket, and accommodation reservations on your phone and in email.
Complete any customs declaration honestly. Cash of EUR 10,000 or more must be declared when entering from outside the EU, and restricted goods must be declared, so check the current rules with Cyprus Customs & Excise before you travel.
Duty-free allowances on alcohol, tobacco, and gifts apply when arriving from outside the EU. Within the EU, goods for personal use move freely. Amounts change, so confirm the current allowance with Cyprus Customs & Excise before relying on a figure.
Minors traveling without both parents may need a notarized authorization letter. Check with your airline.
