Cyprus Public Holidays 2027: Dates, Closures and Festivals

Cyprus has 16 public holiday dates in 2027, 11 of them weekday bank holidays, and Orthodox Easter Sunday falls on 2 May. This page lists every date with its weekday, what official schedules say is closed, and the festival dates confirmed so far.

The Central Bank of Cyprus lists 11 weekday bank holidays for 2027, plus four that fall on a weekend. Plan around Orthodox Easter: Easter Sunday is 2 May 2027, and banks stay shut for five days running, from Good Friday (30 April) to Easter Tuesday (4 May). The eight archaeological sites in the Department of Antiquities schedule, Kourion and the Paphos mosaics among them, are listed as closed on only three days: 1 January, Easter Sunday and 25 December.

Cyprus public holidays 2027: the full list

The table combines the Central Bank of Cyprus bank-holiday calendar for 2027, dated 6 April 2026, with the Deputy Ministry of Tourism's holiday list, which supplies Easter Sunday.

Banks are closed on all 16 dates. The Central Bank's calendar also lists every Sunday, and every Saturday for bank transactions, so Easter Sunday and the four weekend holidays (Labour Day, Assumption Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day) take nothing extra away. Cash machines are a separate matter: Bank of Cyprus, for one, lists its ATMs as available 24/7, including weekends and public holidays (as of 9 October 2026).

Easter Tuesday (4 May) is a bank holiday as well as Easter Monday. Christmas Eve (24 December, Παραμονή Χριστουγέννων) works the other way: it is on the Deputy Ministry of Tourism's holiday list but is not a bank holiday. Six of the 16 dates move every year with Orthodox Easter: Green Monday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, Easter Tuesday and Pentecost.

What is closed on public holidays in Cyprus

For state-run sites, the Department of Antiquities publishes two holiday schedules on the government open-data portal: one for museums, one for monuments and archaeological sites. The last column comes from the shop law, explained below. Christmas Eve is included because both schedules give it a column. Everything here is the published pattern as of 9 October 2026, not a confirmation issued for 2027.

The eight sites in the schedule are Choirokoitia, Hala Sultan Tekke, Amathous, Kolossi Castle, Kourion, the Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates, the Paphos mosaics and the Tombs of the Kings. They are marked closed on 1 January, Orthodox Easter Sunday and 25 December, and open on the other holidays. A public holiday is therefore a workable day for Ancient Kourion, the mosaics at Paphos Archaeological Park or the Tombs of the Kings.

Museums run the other way. The museum schedule marks its museums closed on every holiday, with two exceptions, and even those close on the three dates above. The Cyprus Museum is listed as open on the other holidays from 10:00 to 13:00 only, and as closed when a holiday falls on a Monday, which in 2027 means Green Monday (15 March), Easter Monday (3 May) and Pentecost (21 June). Larnaka Castle is listed as open from 9:30 to 17:00.

A note on Larnaka Castle: two official sources disagree. The table follows the Antiquities schedule, but the tourism ministry's castle page says it is closed on public holidays. Check with the castle before a holiday visit.

Three cautions. Easter Tuesday has no column in either schedule; Holy Saturday has one, and in 2027 it falls on 1 May. The schedules are standing documents: the files are timestamped 8 February 2018 and the parent dataset was last modified on 16 January 2024, with a note that exceptional changes to holiday hours are announced separately in the press. The Department's own website did not open on 9 October 2026, so confirm with a museum before you build a day around it.

Is everything closed on Sunday in Cyprus? What the shop law says

No, but there is no single shop rule we could confirm, because two official sources differ. The consolidated text of Law 155(I)/2006 says general shops are closed on ordinary Sundays. The Deputy Ministry of Tourism's guidance says that in most tourist areas shops and supermarkets are also open on Sundays. The law lets ministerial decrees set separate terms for tourist zones, and we could not find the decree in force for 2026 or 2027.

Treat this as the legal baseline, not as a statement of who is trading on a given day. RIK News reported on 18 March 2016 that a court had ruled section 20(a) of the law unconstitutional, and we could not confirm what force the Sunday wording has today. The only tourist-zone decree we located applied from 13 May to 30 November 2015 and has expired, so zone boundaries, seasons and Sunday hours for 2026 and 2027 are unconfirmed. Section 21 does permit daily opening for named categories, among them bakeries, kiosks, vehicle-rental outlets and shops inside hotels, ports and airports.

In the closures table, "Holiday" marks the ten 2027 dates our research matched to the law's list of general-shop holidays (section 23), subject to the tourist-zone provisions. "Not found" means no match, not confirmation that shops open. One date is on the shop list without being a public holiday: 2 January. The tourism ministry's guidance gives the same 18:00 limit for Good Friday, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.

Easter in Cyprus 2027: five days to plan around

Orthodox Easter Sunday is 2 May 2027. Good Friday (30 April), Easter Monday (3 May) and Easter Tuesday (4 May) are bank holidays on either side of a weekend when banks are closed anyway, so banks are shut for five days running. Labour Day (1 May) falls on the Saturday in between: it adds no extra bank closure, but it matters for shops.

For shops, the law (as read on 9 October 2026) sets an Easter trading period of the ten days before Easter, with general shops closing by 18:00 on Good Friday and Holy Saturday. In 2027 Holy Saturday is 1 May, and the same section keeps the 1 May holiday when it falls inside that period, so that Saturday is a shop holiday, not an 18:00 close. Easter Sunday and Easter Monday are on the shop-holiday list too, which makes an early close on the Friday and then three shop holidays.

Sightseeing is less affected: the archaeological sites are listed as closed on Easter Sunday only, and the Cyprus Museum on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. For the weather then, see our month-by-month guide to the best time to visit Cyprus.

Festivals in Cyprus with confirmed 2027 dates

Only events with a dated 2027 announcement from an official body or the organiser are listed here.

The Limassol Carnival runs from 4 to 14 March 2027 and closes the day before Green Monday. That is about three weeks later in the calendar than the 2026 edition (12 to 22 February), so do not carry the 2026 dates forward. The dates come from the Limassol Tourism listing; we had not found a detailed municipal programme as of 9 October 2026.

Two running weekends are also fixed. The TUI Cyprus Marathon in Paphos is on 27 and 28 February 2027, with a 5km Sunset Run on the Saturday and the marathon on the Sunday. The XM Limassol Marathon is on 3 and 4 April 2027, two days after the Cyprus National Day holiday (Thursday 1 April).

Green Monday, Easter and Kataklysmos have confirmed holiday dates but no single organiser, and we had found no local programmes when we checked. Kataklysmos fairs are held in coastal towns, but the holiday applies across the Republic.

Not announced for 2027 yet: the 2026 dates as a guide

As of 9 October 2026, none of the events below had a dated 2027 announcement in the sources we checked. Their 2026 dates show the usual time of year, not a forecast.

Kataklysmos shows why. Larnaka Municipality's 2026 programme ran from Friday 29 May to Wednesday 3 June, while the 2027 holiday falls on 21 June. The holiday date does not fix the 2027 programme, which needs its own announcement, so wait for it before you book around one evening of the Kataklysmos fair in Larnaca.

The Ayia Napa International Festival ran from 25 to 27 September 2026. The opera at the Pafos Aphrodite Festival was on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 September 2026; Pafos Municipality's tender notice names the company Pafos Aphrodite Festival Cyprus as commissioning it. The Limassol Wine Festival ran from 26 September to 4 October 2026 according to its listing's description, while the same listing's calendar field ends at 00:01 on 5 October. We use the description.

The Anthestiria flower festival is the least settled entry. Of the four editions in the Deputy Ministry of Tourism's 2026 calendar, Paphos and Paralimni-Derynia were both dated 10 May, and Larnaca and Amathounta were cancelled.

For the Cyprus Rally, the organiser and the tourism ministry disagree: the organiser's calendar gives 24 to 25 October 2026, and the March version of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism's annual events calendar gives 9 to 11 October 2026. We follow the organiser for the racing days and could not confirm the host town. The Kypria International Festival is missing from the table because its dates were not part of this check. If your trip misses every festival, our guide to things to do in Cyprus covers what does not depend on the calendar.

These are the Ministry of Education's dates for primary education only; the ministry's page for secondary schools did not open on 9 October 2026, so those periods are unverified.

Public holidays still to come in 2026

Three public holiday dates remain after 9 October 2026 in the Central Bank's 2026 calendar: two weekday bank holidays, and Boxing Day, which it notes falls on a Saturday.

Christmas Eve, 24 December, is not a bank holiday. Under the shop law, as read on 9 October 2026, the Christmas trading period runs from 1 to 31 December, with general shops closing by 20:00, and by 18:00 on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. That is the law's wording, not confirmed trading hours. On 28 October, 24 December and 26 December the Antiquities schedule, read the same day, lists the sites as open from 8:30 to 17:00.

How this page was compiled

This page is desk research, not a visit report. On 9 October 2026 we copied each date and weekday from the official sources below, without calculating any movable holiday ourselves. Holiday dates come from the Central Bank of Cyprus calendars (2027 dated 6 April 2026, 2026 dated 14 August 2025) and the Deputy Ministry of Tourism's holiday page, whose movable-date calendar covers 2025 to 2029. Closures come from the Department of Antiquities schedules and Law 155(I)/2006. Event dates come from organisers, municipalities and the Deputy Ministry of Tourism's event listings. Four details come from pages not linked below: the tourism ministry's Larnaka Castle page, a Pafos Municipality tender notice, Bank of Cyprus's working-hours page and a 2016 RIK News report.

We could not confirm: the tourist-zone decrees and Sunday shop hours in force for 2026 and 2027; whether the Antiquities schedules apply unchanged in 2027; which official statement on Larnaka Castle is current; any Easter Tuesday closure beyond banks; secondary and technical school holidays; 2027 dates for the events in the second festival table; or the Cyprus Rally's host town. One source error: the Greek version of the Central Bank's 2027 calendar labels 1 May as New Year's Day, while the English version and the Deputy Ministry of Tourism call it Labour Day, which we use.

Dates, opening patterns and trading rules change, so check with the venue or organiser before you book around them.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the Limassol Carnival in 2027?

The Limassol Carnival runs from 4 to 14 March 2027, according to the Limassol Tourism listing checked on 9 October 2026. It closes the day before Green Monday, 15 March, which is a public holiday. The 2026 edition ran from 12 to 22 February, so the 2027 dates are about three weeks later.

When is Easter in Cyprus in 2027?

Orthodox Easter Sunday in Cyprus is 2 May 2027. Good Friday is 30 April, Easter Monday is 3 May and Easter Tuesday is 4 May, and banks are closed on each. With the weekend in between, when banks are closed anyway, that makes five days running. Labour Day falls on that Saturday, 1 May.

When is Kataklysmos in 2027?

The Kataklysmos public holiday is Monday 21 June 2027, across the Republic. That is the bank holiday, not the festival programme: we had found no municipal programme for 2027, including in Larnaca, as of 9 October 2026. In 2026 the Larnaka Municipality programme ran from Friday 29 May to Wednesday 3 June, longer than the holiday alone.

Is everything closed on Sunday in Cyprus?

No, although Sunday shop opening is the one point we could not pin down. The consolidated shop law says general shops are closed on ordinary Sundays, while the Deputy Ministry of Tourism says that in most tourist areas shops and supermarkets are also open on Sundays. Banks are closed every Sunday.

When is the Ayia Napa festival?

The Ayia Napa International Festival last ran from 25 to 27 September 2026, organised by Ayia Napa Municipality. We had found no 2027 dates as of 9 October 2026. The municipality's 2026 announcement is dated 7 September 2026, so check its own notice before you book.

Are museums and archaeological sites open on public holidays in Cyprus?

The listed archaeological sites usually are, and the listed museums mostly are not. The Department of Antiquities schedule marks eight sites as closed only on 1 January, Orthodox Easter Sunday and 25 December. Its museum schedule marks every museum closed on those three dates and most closed on the other holidays too. The Cyprus Museum is listed as open from 10:00 to 13:00 (as of 9 October 2026), except on Monday holidays. Larnaka Castle is listed as open, but the tourism ministry's page says closed on public holidays.
