4x4 tour across the Akamas peninsula
A 4x4 safari over the rough tracks of the Akamas peninsula, taking in Lara Beach, the Blue Lagoon and the gorge country. Reaches places ordinary cars cannot.
The Akamas peninsula is a protected wilderness of dirt tracks, gorges and empty coves at the western tip of Cyprus, reached from Polis and Latchi or from Paphos. A jeep safari uses a sturdy 4x4 to cover the unsealed roads that ordinary hire cars are not allowed on, linking several of the area's main sights in a single, full day on the move.
Typical itineraries take in the turtle-nesting sands of Lara Beach, a swim stop at the Blue Lagoon, and a guided walk into the dramatic Avakas Gorge with its high limestone walls. Some tours add the Baths of Aphrodite spring and viewpoints over the rugged coast. The driving is deliberately bumpy and dusty in places, which is much of the appeal, and the guide points out the wild scenery and history along the way.
Full-day trips usually run with hotel pickup, a driver-guide and stops for swimming and short walks. You can join a shared vehicle or book a private jeep for your group. Self-drive convoy options also exist for travellers who want to handle the 4x4 themselves under a lead guide. Because the terrain is rough, the day suits those happy with a jolting ride rather than a smooth coach.
Wear closed shoes and clothes you do not mind getting dusty, bring water and a hat, and take swimwear for the lagoon stop.
