Baths of Aphrodite
Natural grotto and spring near Latchi
Baths of Aphrodite
The Baths of Aphrodite lie just past the fishing harbour of Latchi, where the road runs out toward the Akamas peninsula. A short, easy path from the car park and visitor area leads to a small natural grotto, where a freshwater spring feeds a shaded pool beneath a spreading fig tree.
The spot takes its name from Greek mythology, which holds that the goddess Aphrodite bathed in this pool and met her lover Adonis here. You cannot swim in the small pool, which is roped off, but the green, shaded setting is a cool contrast to the dry coast and a pleasant short stop. A botanical garden of native plants surrounds the path.
A gateway to the Akamas
The real value of the Baths is as a trailhead. Long-distance coastal paths, including the Aphrodite and Adonis nature trails, start here and climb into the Akamas peninsula with wide views over the sea. From the harbour at Latchi you can also take a boat west toward the Blue Lagoon and along the wild coast.
- The grotto pool is for viewing only; swimming is not allowed.
- Coastal nature trails into the Akamas begin at this point.
- It pairs with a Blue Lagoon boat trip from nearby Latchi.
Wear walking shoes if you plan to follow the trails, bring water and sun cover for the exposed coast, and treat the grotto itself as a brief, shaded stop rather than the main event.
